I learn something from this event. Every person has their own contribution that can’t be compared between each other. If you can give more, just give more. No need to complain. If you just give less, it doesn’t mean you are worse than others. I really appreciate people who concern more about the positive step-by-step progress of someone rather than the final result whether he/she looks great or not.

We can’t judge people by the outside because we don’t know the whole story of the process. No need to feel shy because you can’t contribute more. No need to feel guilty because you have done wrong. And, no need to feel afraid because you can make others feel disappointed or mad.

Just enjoy the progress and make the process fun. Don’t forget your inner heart of happiness and joyful feeling as being volunteer. I really hope everyone always learn to be better although it’s just 1% improvement of your positive effort.

WHY BEING PRESIDENT? (PART 2)

KaiFaXinTian Cultivate Inner Heart YADIndonesia BLIA YAD INA David Wijaya 91.jpg

I don’t have any expectation when I took this responsibility. I said to the Venerable,

“I am not thinking about how creative the BLIA YAD will organize an event or how many members that youth will join in BLIA YAD. But, it is about how I can create the balance of my life. Yah, it is not only about organization, but I also have career, family, relationship, passion, and other aspects of life that as son I need to concern about. So, I will just go with the flow and keep trying my best. I will not proud if I am just success in organization, but the other aspects of my life are not well organized. Just make it balance. I will try!”

That’s what I said. The moment when the Venerable asked me, “David, how you see BLIA YAD in the future?”. I don’t know why I am not feeling so passionate after having this chance as the President. There is no election, and I am just offering myself to take this position with the support from my best friends. Actually it’s not because I am not happy but I just want to let it flow without any higher expectation that will give me a lot of burdens in the future.

Now, I have passed 6 months from 36 months. I am just feeling grateful with every good fates that have been involved all this time. Having committees & ambassadors (volunteers) with all their own strengths and weaknesses has been my valuable learning as a leader. So many positive feedback that I get from them. I can conclude that it is because they really “enjoy” what they do in BLIA YAD.

As long as we enjoy every situations with joyful heart, I believe that cultivating inner heart will be the source of happiness in going through this responsibility. We don’t need to push ourselves too hard in organization because there are a lot of people in organization that can help each other to lighten the tasks from hard to easy. Do it in team, ask for help, and support each other (:

Auspicious Gala Dinner & Wishing Candle 2017 BLIA YAD Indonesia

Auspicious Gala Dinner (7th April 2017) and Wishing Candle (23th April 2017). Finally, we did it guys! Passing 2 big events in a same month is just a challenging experience. At first, I can’t imagine in my first 4 months of being President with new committees plus new environment, we have to prepare those events in a row. It’s just out of my expectation that behind this achievement, there are almost 70 volunteers who have given their best support. They spend their time and effort to be in a same team for giving their best to all participants.

Sometimes I feel that how I can give a better chance to all committees and volunteers for developing themselves through the vision “Cultivate Inner Heart”. Sometimes it is totally out of my limitation to know what they have felt all this time in my length of service as President who have to think a lot for further plan, but I don’t have much time to concern one by one. I have to work with system and schedule so that we can bring us closer to our target. But, I’m sure that every feedback will be my references to create a better system.

In this chance, through this blog, I am very opened with all criticism and suggestions (also ideas) from your point of view as committees, volunteers, or maybe participants, who have been together with BLIA YAD Indonesia all this time.  I am sure the key of success in organization is an honest and sincere communication through each other. Hope for your feedback! Thank you, guys (:

Independence Day in 2017?

Someone remind me about how we all missed the Independence Day of BLIA YAD Indonesia. It has been 4 years ago when 2012 was the last time this event was held. Independence Day was so unique and memorable event because we really felt the teamwork by facing quite hard challenge to be recognized as a fighter for Indonesia’s Independence Day.

So, will it be held this year? I am very open to all youths who want to organize this event by creating their own team of committee. By having member’s contribution, I have a good feeling that this cool event can be reborn this year. Anyone?

Dance like nobody is watching

Yah, sometimes we takes too much energy and time to do meeting and preparing for next event. Discuss all things that will never come to end. Yes, it will be such a burden if we are not used to it. If we take it as challenge and learning, then we will enjoy it so much. No matter what, we have to keep going with what we have been holding on. Yes, our commitment as committee of BLIA YAD. Let’s dance like nobody is watching! Tetap semangART!

Organization Structure 2017/2020

First thing when I saw this structure is how to make all of them as a family. I haven’t work as a team with them before. Most of them, like Fiona, Dicky, Winnie, Widya, Ricardo, Vincent, Emily, Wilbert, Starwin, Edwin, and Rudiyanto, they were totally my new partners in organization. I haven’t know them very well, and I’m just afraid that they can’t be consistent in facing this 3 years of commitment.

It is not because I don’t believe them, but I feel worry when they are facing obstacle in the process, they can’t handle it then keep it as secret, and finally feel depressed in the end.

This is my first challenge; being a family with them, standing beside them, supporting them, and working with them as optimistic partner. Can I make it happened?

WHY BEING PRESIDENT? (PART 1)

It’s just a long story, guys. First time in 2008, I knew BLIA YAD Indonesia from my school friend, Nita Sofiani. She engaged me, Handy (the Vice President in period of Jessica & Rosalina), and friends to join the Independence Day and Old & New Celebration at Dharma Shanti Temple Berastagi. I found an interest when I saw how youths expressed their happiness through passion and creativity. So, I spent my time to know more about BLIA YAD from their weekly activity, called Sunday Class at Dharma Shanti Temple Medan from 9am till 11am.

I was not an active person at that time. I was afraid to talk, mostly I spoke when it was necessary. But, I started to change my habit when I was inspired by the speaker session of former presidents, Chandra Salim (Former President I), Hendry Willy Nasrun (Former President II), and Suryono (Former President III) which was the president at that time. They have their own style being a speaker, and I am totally impressed in how they talked in front of public. Suddenly, I have a crazy dream, “One day, I want to be a president like them. Talking with confidence, communicating with charisma, and inspiring with character.”

Well, time flies! I applied myself as committee in 2011 with Robin as the president. I offered myself in Activity division, and in the interview session by Venerable Light  (Supervisor of BLIA YAD Indonesia), Venerable asked me, “What do you want to reach in BLIA YAD?”. Without thinking twice, I answered, “I want to be a president one day.”

As my journey started as committee in Activity division with my best partner, Stella Yaparlin, I realized that being a president was not an easy task. I reflected myself, “If I can’t accomplish my responsibility in this division, how come I can be a president?”. So, that mindset keeps motivating me to do more than just an ordinary committee. I have to make a good track record, and I have to show the best. One day, I realized more that having achievement in BLIA YAD is not the only purpose to be the best committee. So, Venerable ever wrote to me,

“To be honest, I’m impressed and salute with how David accomplish or run the tasks, always in spirit, and mindful in organize. Keep in mind, David! Don’t easily be arrogant! There are still so many things we need to learn, but in the way of ‘awareness, discipline, and your knowledge’ as the foundation. David will be success in the future, and my wish and suggestion, if David is pleased to accept it… Exploring the teaching of Buddha Dharma, exploring the theory of Humanistic Buddhism, beside business, through moral and good personality of David, a number 1 Motivator of Buddhist Teacher will born one day!!!”
